Featured Theme: Hakka Culture

The central theme of our 20th anniversary is Hakka Culture, and we have collaborated with our partners at the 31st World Hakka Conference to reflect the city’s multicultural and socially inclusive character. Hakkas from around the world have gathered in Markham to enhance fellowship, promote harmony, develop shared interests, and carry forward the Hakka spirit of “endurance and diligence, daring to pioneer and keep forging ahead.” With its rich culture and history, the F.C.C.M. is proud to showcase Hakka Culture at this year’s Taste of Asia. The celebration featured numerous cultural performances and cuisines, highlighting the vibrant traditions of the Hakka people.

Return of Taste of Asia

The 2022 Taste Of Asia marks our first return since COVID-19, and we are incredibly thankful for everyone’s support. We strive to share Chinese and other Asian cultures with all Canadians through our organization and events.

Thanks to the strong support from all three levels of government, TD Bank Group, our sponsors, and the Markham community, the 20th Taste of Asia has been a resounding success with over 300,000 visitors. The festival continues to be a platform for celebrating and promoting awareness of different Asian cultures across Canada. Government officials, including MPs, senators, Mayor of Markham Frank Scarpitti, Markham MP and Minister of International Trade Mary Ng, and Minister of Housing and Diversity Ahmed Hussen, engaged with the community through Taste of Asia.

In Honor Of Emily Ng

Emily Ng, one of the founders of the Taste of Asia festival, sadly passed away in 2022. Her dedication and hard work were instrumental in shaping the event into what it is today. In honor of her contributions, the Taste of Asia 2022 opening ceremony included a special segment dedicated to Emily, where Mayor Frank Scarpitti and other dignitaries paid tribute to her legacy. Emily’s unwavering commitment to fostering community spirit and celebrating cultural diversity has left an indelible mark on the festival and the community. Her memory continues to inspire all who knew her and participated in the event she helped create.
